Your skills in American Sign Language (ASL) will be essential for helping students thrive in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter. Experience working in school settings, particularly in special education (SPED) environments, is preferred. Relevant certification or licensure as required by state or educational standards. Ability to interpret spoken language to ASL and vice versa for students and staff. Strong communication and organizational skills. Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic, student-focused settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
Interpret lessons, classroom discussions, and other school activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Collaborate with teachers, special education professionals, and administrators to provide optimal support. Act as a resource for students, families, and staff regarding communication needs and access. Assist with IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and extracurricular events as needed. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting practices in all situations. Support accessible learning initiatives across diverse educational contexts.
