With programs designed and taught by working industry professionals, Gnomon specializes in computer graphics education for careers in the entertainment industry. The Role Gnomon is seeking a skilled and professional ASL Interpreter to provide communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in an educational environment. The interpreter will facilitate communication between students, instructors, and other members of the Gnomon community by accurately interpreting between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English. Gnomon offers programs focused on digital production, visual effects, animation, and other creative disciplines and assignments may include specialized terminology, technical instruction, demonstrations, critiques, and hands-on classroom activities. The ideal candidate will be comfortable learning and interpreting subject-specific vocabulary and adapting to different instructional environments. What You'll Do Provide accurate, clear, and confidential ASL/English interpretation for classes and related academic activities. Interpret lectures, classroom discussions, demonstrations, critiques, and other instructional activities as assigned. Prepare for assignments by becoming familiar with relevant course content, terminology, and instructional materials. Adapt interpreting to technical and specialized subject matter within Gnomon's digital production and creative arts curriculum. Work collaboratively with students, instructors, Disability Services, and other Gnomon staff to support effective communication access. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries in an educational setting. Support communication access while respecting the student's language preferences and individual communication needs. Follow professional standards and ethical practices applicable to ASL interpreting. Communicate scheduling or assignment-related concerns promptly with the appropriate Gnomon staff. What We're Looking For Professional proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English . Demonstrated experience providing ASL/English interpreting services . Experience interpreting in an educational or postsecondary setting preferred. Experience interpreting technical, specialized, or academic subject matter preferred. Appropriate professional certification or credentials in ASL interpreting. Strong interpersonal, communication, and professional skills. Ability to accurately interpret lectures, discussions, demonstrations, critiques, and other instructional content. Ability to prepare for assignments and develop familiarity with course-specific terminology and subject matter . Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity when working with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to work collaboratively with Disability Services and members of the Gnomon community. Reliable and punctual, with the ability to commit to scheduled assignments throughout the academic term. Schedule Assignments will vary based on student and course schedules. The position may involve recurring class assignments during the academic term, with schedules established in advance.
