Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make an impact in the lives of students by supporting access to education in a dynamic classroom setting. A contract position is available for an ASL Instructional Assistant, ASL Paraprofessional, or ASL Interpreter to work 1:1 with an elementary-aged student. This role is ideal for fluent ASL professionals passionate about fostering communication, inclusion, and independence for Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) students.
Key Qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience in schools, classrooms, student support, or educational interpreting preferred Background working with elementary-aged or DHH students is valued Strong interpersonal and communication skills Reliable, patient, and collaborative team member Certification (EIPA/RID) is not required
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide ASL communication and classroom assistance to an elementary-aged student Interpret or facilitate communication during all classroom activities, lessons, and school routines Support ongoing interaction between the student, teachers, staff, and peers Assist in classroom transitions, assignments, and daily student needs Encourage independence, participation, and positive peer relationships Work closely with teachers and the wider special education team to create an inclusive learning environment What's in It for You?
