Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting student success as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming academic year. This contract position, starting August 5th, focuses on providing dedicated 1:1 interpretation services for a high school freshman, ensuring equal access and communication within the educational environment.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language, with prior experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in school settings. A minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA). Willingness to pursue and obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) interpreter licensure (support for the process will be provided). Strong understanding of Deaf culture and educational terminology. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills with both students and staff. Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to fostering student engagement and independence.Primary Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken communication into sign language - and vice versa - for all classroom activities, assignments, and peer interactions for one high school freshman. Facilitate clear, inclusive communication between the student, educators, and classmates, both in instructional and extracurricular settings. Assist with preparation and adaptation of instructional materials as needed. Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other professionals to support individualized student needs. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical guidelines at all times.
