Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact supporting students in an educational setting as a Sign Language Interpreter on a full-time, full school year contract assignment. This position is perfect for an interpreter who is passionate about fostering communication and accessibility for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Work directly within a school environment, collaborating with educators and staff to enhance the learning experience for every student.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher required Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of interpreting in classroom settings Ability to adapt communication styles to meet student needs across various age groups Previous experience in a school environment is preferred but not required Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa for students, classroom teachers, and staff during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities Support students' access to academic content and communication throughout the school day Foster a positive and inclusive educational environment by facilitating effective communication Collaborate with educational teams to ensure students' individualized needs are met Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and flexibility in a dynamic school environment
