JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college degree in education, Associates Degree from an accredited interpreter training program is preferred; and Must have an EIPA score of at least 3.5 or hold a nationally recognized certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) level 3 or higher; Oral and Cued Speech transliterators must hold certification from the RID or TECUnit (testing, evaluation and certification unit), respectively; Must earn 80 hours (not credits) of continuing education units every 5 years; Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Interpreter. Interpret/translate spoken English into an individually based, appropriate mode of communication for deaf/hard of hearing students Proficient in the use of signing skills. Proficient in reverse interpreting. Perform interpreting/translation duties in the classroom, tutoring, supplemental or special instruction, conference, and related educational situations; interpret/translate one-to-one or one-to-group or classroom settings Ability to correctly use English grammar. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with administrators, students, teachers, parents and patrons. Competence is expected in performing the major duties and responsibilities as noted. Two (2) years interpreting experience in an educational setting, preferably at the same school level for the position assigned; and any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Interpreter.
