Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Seeking dedicated Sign Language Interpreters to provide support in educational settings near Arlington Heights, IL. Two contract positions are available, both requiring strong sign language proficiency and a passion for enhancing communication access for students.
Available Assignments:
The first role is based at the John Powers Center, with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm. The second opportunity is at Grayslake North High School, Monday through Friday, 8am-12pm. Both positions are onsite and begin as soon as possible. Assignments extend through May 2027.
Preferred Qualifications:
EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Approval, or EIPA score of 3.0-3.4 accepted with ISBE Interim Approval Alternative credentials such as BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC also accepted with ISBE Approval Previous interpreting experience in school environments is preferred Strong understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture Professionalism and commitment to student support Ability to collaborate with educators and related service providers
Primary Responsibilities:
Facilitate effective communication by interpreting spoken English to ASL and vice versa between students, staff, and faculty in classroom and school settings Provide interpreting services during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and other school activities Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality in all interactions Adapt interpreting style to suit a wide range of student's needs and educational environments Participate in IEP meetings and support students' learning goals This is a rewarding opportunity to empower students' access and inclusion as they progress through their educational journey.
