Educational Sign Language Interpreter Position Summary The Educational Sign Language Interpreter provides communication access for deaf or hard-of-hearing students by interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa in classroom and school settings. Key Responsibilities Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities using appropriate sign systems (e.g., ASL). Support communication between students, teachers, peers, and staff. Prepare for lessons by reviewing instructional materials and vocabulary. Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure access to curriculum. Maintain confidentiality and professional interpreting standards. Assist in IEP-related communication as appropriate. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Educational Interpreting or a related field required. Valid EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) certification meeting Illinois state requirements with a score of 3.5+. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
