Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to educational settings as a Sign Language Interpreter and make a meaningful difference in students' lives. Exciting contract opportunities are available at multiple grade levels for the coming school year in the Elgin, IL region. Assignments include both full-time and part-time positions, providing flexibility for your work preferences and career goals.
Opportunities Available:
Full-time at a middle school (35 hours/week) Part-time at a high school (20 hours/week) Full-time at an elementary school (35 hours/week)
Qualifications & Experience Sought:
Proficiency as a sign language interpreter in educational or school settings Valid EIPA score of 3.5 or higher & ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) certification; or EIPA 3.0+ with ISBE approval Strong interpersonal and communication skills Capacity to adapt interpreting style to the developmental level and learning needs of each student Organizational skills that promote effective scheduling and collaboration
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, group work, and school events from spoken English to sign language and vice versa Facilitate clear communication between students, faculty, and staff Support students' participation in both academic and extracurricular activities Maintain confidentiality while fostering a supportive, inclusive environment Collaborate with teaching teams to address students' individual plans and communication needs
