Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience as a school-based interpreter preferred Valid certifications: EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Approval, or EIPA score of 3.0-3.4 with ISBE Interim Approval; BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC also accepted with ISBE Approval Strong collaborative and communication skills to partner with teachers, staff, and students Adaptability and flexibility for dynamic school environments
Responsibilities:
Provide sign language interpretation for students in the classroom and during school activities Facilitate clear communication between students, educators, and peers by interpreting spoken and signed languages accurately Support students inclusion and engagement in all aspects of their educational day Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards according to industry guidelines Adapt interpreting style and approach based on student needs and instructional context
Available Assignments:
John Powers Center assignment: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am3:00 pm, through May 28, 2027 Grayslake North High School assignment: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am12:00 pm, through May 20, 2027 Both roles are onsite only.
