  • English/Spanish Interpreter (Regional Role) The English/Spanish Interpreter facilitates effective communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers by performing medical and general interpreting duties in accordance with the National Standards of Practice (NCIHC).
This role ensures that language is not a barrier to quality care, while also serving as a cultural liaison when needed.

The interpreter will rotate between Loyola University Medical Center, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, and MacNeal Hospital based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation during medical consultations, diagnostic tests, procedures, and the consent process. Clarify hospital policies regarding visiting hours, parking, and visitor amenities. Promote clear and accurate communication to enhance patient understanding and safety. Assess and monitor patients' comprehension of medical information; serve as a cultural mediator as needed. Document interpretation encounters thoroughly, including time, location, and purpose. Record instances of patients refusing interpretation services. Maintain detailed logs of productivity, volume, and interpretation requests. Participate actively in staff meetings and required in-service training. EDUCATION
Completion of high school education or equivalent required. Additional college education preferred. Minimum of two years of professional interpreter experience in a medical setting.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Ability to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially, both receptive and expressive, using medical terminology as appropriate. Ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in both English and the target language. Must be able to achieve a rating of Advanced/High on the ACTFL testing scale, or equivalent. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary, team environment. Flexibility in response to changes in service provision demands. Knowledgeable about the issues of cultural competency and healthcare disparities. Adaptable and sensitive in cross-cultural situations. Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills.
Pay Range:
$20.02
  • $31.
03 per hour Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
