Job Description
Overview In this vital role, you will facilitate clear, accurate, and culturally competent exchanges in medical settings, ensuring patients receive the best possible care. Your expertise will empower diverse communities by making healthcare accessible and understandable for all. This is an on-site position. To be considered, candidates must currently reside in Fort Wayne, IN, or within a 20-mile radius of the city. Important Availability Requirement This position is intended for independent medical interpreters who have flexibility in their schedules and are able to accept last-minute assignments . This is not a position with guaranteed or regularly scheduled hours. Assignments may be requested with little or no advance notice and may last up to 12 hours , particularly for Labor & Delivery cases. Interpreters must be prepared to remain available for extended assignments when needed. This opportunity may be best suited for interpreters who work independently or have flexible schedules. It may not be a good fit for individuals who currently have a full-time or regular part-time job with fixed working hours or other commitments that prevent them from accepting last-minute assignments. Please carefully consider these requirements before applying. Availability Acknowledgment This position does not provide guaranteed or regularly scheduled hours. Assignments may become available at any time and may be offered with little or no advance notice. Assignments, particularly in Labor & Delivery, may require up to 12 hours of continuous interpreting service. I understand that being on the interpreter roster does not guarantee a minimum number of hours or assignments. Duties Interpret accurately and efficiently between Spanish and English during medical consultations, procedures, and administrative interactions Utilize simultaneous and consecutive techniques to provide quality interpreting for patients and healthcare providers Assist healthcare professionals by translating medical documents, patient histories, and treatment plans with precision Manage translation terminology to maintain consistency and accuracy across all medical content and documentation Support content localization efforts to adapt health information materials for Spanish-speaking audiences Maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations while handling sensitive patient information Experience Multilingual proficiency with a strong command of both Spanish and English, demonstrating language proficiency level 3 or higher Proven experience in interpretation within healthcare or related medical environments Knowledge of medical terminology, translation processes, and content localization practices Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically Background in linguistics or cultural competency training is highly desirable Demonstrated ability to handle interpretation tasks with professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail
