Desired Experience & Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience as a sign language interpreter in schools or educational settings Knowledge of deaf culture and best practices in interpretation Compliance with relevant state and national certification or licensing standards Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to adapt messages clearly and accurately between spoken English and ASL Professionalism, confidentiality, and a commitment to student success
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and school staff Support communication during assemblies, field trips, meetings, and extracurricular activities Collaborate with teachers and support staff to meet the individual needs of students Translate educational materials and instructions as needed Foster an inclusive environment that promotes equal access to information Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with all school and district policies
