Hiring Agency Judicial | Court of Justice Location 1001 Center Street Bowling Green, KY 42101 USA Description The Administrative Office of the Courts is the operational arm of the judicial branch. The court system employs nearly 3,300 personnel who support 406 elected justices, judges, and circuit court clerks. We also promote a healthy work and life balance. The Department of Language Access has an immediate opening for a Language Access Liaison in southwestern Kentucky. Based in Warren County.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS CLASSIFICATION
Responsible for providing approved language access services, including onsite interpretation, telephonic interpretation, and video remote interpretation (VRI), within all assigned judicial districts. Extensive travel throughout the state may be required. Maintains, analyzes, prepares, and submits quarterly and annual reports to ola on court interpreter usage and other statistics as assigned. Responsible for the accurate reporting of all in-court and VRI events within assigned districts and for inputting information into the proper databases. Works with telecommunications and audio-visual specialists to maintain an accurate inventory of all interpreting equipment and to ensure the proper installation and operation of interpreting equipment within each assigned district, including all VRI equipment. Assists courts and OLA manager with interpreting and translation program improvements. Assists in recruiting, training, and certifying new interpreters based on departmental needs. Assistance may include administering exams and providing direct instruction to new interpreter candidates. Supports OLA manager in administering the KY AOC court interpreting certification process as needed. Assists with personnel matters and recommends disciplinary actions to OLA manager when appropriate. Keeps justice partners, staff interpreters and contractors within assigned districts informed of any updates or changes in policy or procedures implemented by OLA. Supports the office of translation services as needed, including providing direct translation services and editing completed translations. Performs other duties and special assignments as required. Professional Experience and/or Advanced Credentials in Court Interpreting on Case-By-Case BasisSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess state court interpreter certification and have been approved to interpret in judicial proceedings in the state of Kentucky. Must possess a valid Kentucky driver's license and be willing to travel as needed. Preference given to candidates with advanced degrees related to the field of translation and interpretation. Advanced accreditation as an interpreter and/or translator highly preferred. The successful candidate must possess administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience; possess excellent interpersonal skills, possess the ability to exercise mature judgement. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to provide leadership and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels of the judicial system. Candidate must be adept at recognizing problems, analyzing causes, and recommending and implementing practical solutions. Successful candidate should be a self-starter, mature, highly organized, and poised, demonstrate entitative, possess tact and good judgement. Working Conditions The incumbent works primarily in an office setting, Detention Center and/or Court Room. Extensive travel is required. May include nights, weekends, and holidays.
