In our program, students learn English language skills geared toward life and work skills, ensuring they are employment ready and on the path to self sufficiency. Since KRM-Covington founded our English Language Training program in January of 2021, we have served over 300 clients resettled through the US Refugee Program and other eligible immigrant populations. Many of these clients have already completed a 90 day cycle of English education as required by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. In this context, key duties for the ELT Coordinator include, but are not limited to, planning and teaching classes across multiple levels, coordinating cultural orientation programming, and working closely with case management staff to support client progress. As the sole ELT staff position in the Covington office, the ELT Coordinator has significant opportunity to innovate class structure and curriculum, with the opportunity to help shape the growth of the program. A key focus will be recruitment of previous English learners back into the classroom. Key Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment Implement lesson-planning and classroom management practices that facilitate interactive language learning and practice Help students apply English to real-world contexts and situations, including accessing community resources and navigation Adapt existing English and cultural orientation programming based on enrolled students' needs Prepare guidance and materials that can be utilized for small-group as well as classroom-wide instruction Assessment and Coordination Utilize industry-standard assessments to place newly enrolled learners into the appropriate English course Conduct pre/post-testing of English learners to assess program efficacy and areas of improvement Review client needs, attendance concerns, and progress in collaboration with Case Management staff Communicate with clients and case workers about schedules and class expectations Cultural Orientation Plan and deliver cultural orientation programming Integrate cultural orientation content into the broader English language curriculum where appropriate Collaborate with Community Engagement staff to host relevant cultural events for learners Program Monitoring & Reporting Track student attendance and progress across all classes Maintain records needed for internal reporting, funder requirements, and client eligibility for access to public benefits. Report on class outcomes and program status to the Programs Lead Volunteer Collaboration Work alongside ELT volunteers and tutors in the classroom Train volunteers to peer-tutor clients in English in coordination with the Volunteer Coordinator Review English Practice Partners Programming with the Volunteer Coordinator to align with ELT learning outcomes Qualifications Bachelor's degree required 1-2 years of ELT experience
TESOL/ESL
certification is a plus, but not required Experience working with refugee, immigrant, or diverse and multicultural populations Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to adapt instruction for varying literacy and language levels Agency Profile Founded in 1990 as a nonprofit agency in Louisville, Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) is a local affiliate of Church World Service, one of nine national voluntary agencies authorized to provide resettlement services to refugees legally admitted to the United States through theRefugee Admissions Program and supported by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. KRMʼs Lexington sub-office was founded in 1998; a Northern Kentucky office in Covington opened in November 2021. KRM assists refugees, Afghan evacuees, Cuban Entrants, and individuals from various countries who have been approved for asylum or are applying for asylum. KRM secures housing and medical care for clients and provides them with comprehensive case management including employment services, ESL and cultural orientation, and specialized programs for immigrant youth and elders, victims of crime, as well as arts and culture programming. The agency also offers citizenship classes for legal permanent residents preparing to apply for U.S. citizenship. KRMʼs Louisville office has an immigration legal services team that provides services to immigrants of all statuses. KRM staff do not engage in any religious messaging in connection to delivery of client services. Position Status, Compensation and Benefits Full-time Reports to KRM Resettlement Director in Covington, KY Hourly pay based on background and experience , in range of $23 to $24.25 per hour.
