Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract If you have a passion for supporting students and a strong command of American Sign Language, this contract opportunity near Eunice, LA, may be the perfect fit for your expertise. This assignment centers on providing essential communication access for a deaf elementary student within a supportive school environment, helping foster their engagement and success during the academic day from 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications:
EIPA score of 2.5 or higher, or a related degree with demonstrated fluency in ASL (an interpreting demonstration will be required during the interview) Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Paraprofessional in educational settings is highly desirable Comprehensive understanding of Deaf culture and a commitment to facilitating inclusive learning Effective communication skills, both in ASL and English, with an empathetic and professional approach Ability to collaborate with educators, specialists, and families to best support the student's needs
Core Responsibilities:
Deliver one-on-one interpreting services for a deaf student in the classroom and throughout the school day Ensure clear, accurate, and confidential interpretation of lesson content, discussions, and school activities Tailor interpreting techniques to match the student's comprehension and communication style Work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide seamless integration within the general education curriculum Assist in fostering the student's self-advocacy, confidence, and participation in both academic and social aspects of school This assignment offers a rewarding opportunity to directly impact a child's educational experience in a vibrant, inclusive setting.
