Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Begin making a meaningful impact in the lives of hearing-impaired students by providing specialized support as a contract Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming academic year in the New Orleans area. This full-time opportunity runs from ASAP through May 27, 2027, offering 37.5 hours each week following the school calendar. As the key support for hearing-impaired students, you'll work closely with the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism in the Student Support Unit. Your expertise will help resource-level students thrive within regular education settings while supporting teachers and staff to optimize learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver IEP-driven direct and consultative services to hearing-impaired students. Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide or adapt teaching materials and assessments. Facilitate service delivery and identify needs within mainstream classrooms. Request and troubleshoot specialized auditory equipment, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive devices. Offer in-service training for school personnel to foster positive inclusion. Maintain accurate educational records, IEP documentation, progress notes, and reports. Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the department coordinator.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and current Louisiana teacher's certification in Hearing Impaired required. Minimum of 3 years' experience working with hearing-impaired students in an educational environment. Proficiency in sign language and understanding of hearing assistive technology. Ability to handle multiple priorities and exhibit professional judgment. Collaborative spirit and strong communication skills across varied stakeholders. Computer proficiency for documentation and reporting needs. Must be licensed in your home state. Previous VOCO experience is required. Ability to pass fingerprinting and drug screening per district policy.
