ESL Practicum Advisors Dates/Hours:
Exact dates to be determined. As part of the district's support of the ESL certification requirements, a 150-hour ESL Practicum has been developed. To strengthen the ESL Practicum, advisors will be hired to support the work with the participants. Advisors will be asked to cover essential components of English learner education, including history of ELs, protocols and procedures, acculturation, second language acquisition theory, EL data and analysis, parent engagement and communication, literacy development, scaffolding content, ESL lesson plan development, and SEL for English learners.Minimum Qualifications:
1.Professional Teaching certificate (license) from the MA DOE in ESL (PreK-6 or 5-12) 2.Successful experience working with English learners inLAUNCH/TBE/SEI/ESL
program settings. 3.Knowledge of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education guidance documents regarding English learners. 4.Knowledge of the district English learner protocols and procedures 5.Knowledge of second language acquisition, linguistics, and sheltering content approaches 6.Knowledge of assessment practices (ACCESS, MODEL, WIDA Screener, etc.) and data analysis for English learner. 7.Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, and ESL lesson plan preparation 8.Experience with mentoring educators, preferredResponsibilities:
1.Meet one-one-one with assigned participants (at different grade levels) at least once a month (October-May) 2.Implement the ESL Practicum's policies and procedures 3.Identify ESL Practicum Participant expectations (Handbook, Assignments etc.) to accurately advise and support participants 4.Clearly communicate assignment expectations and due dates to participant 5.Conduct thoughtful conversations around ESL instruction and Second Language Acquisition 6.Provide participants with appropriate support to complete the assignments and fulfill ESL Practicum expectations 7.Read and provide thoughtful feedback on ESL Practicum assignments 8.Communicate participant meeting attendance and feedback toSupervisor of ESL Practicum Compensation:
