As part of the district's support of the ESL certification requirements, a 150-hour ESL Practicum has been developed. To strengthen the ESL Practicum, advisors will be hired to support the work with the participants. The ESL Practicum Supervisor will coordinate the ESL Practicum Advisors, who will cover essential components of English learner education, including history of ELs, protocols and procedures, acculturation, second language acquisition theory, EL data and analysis, parent engagement and communication, literacy development, scaffolding content, ESL lesson plan development, and SEL for English learners.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.Professional Teaching certificate (license) from the MA DOE in ESL (PreK-6 or 5-12)
2.Successful experience as an ESL Practicum Advisor
3.Successful experience working with English learners in
LAUNCH/TBE/SEI/ESL
program settings.
4.Knowledge of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education guidance documents regarding English learners.
5.Knowledge of the district English learner protocols and procedures
6.Knowledge of second language acquisition, linguistics, and sheltering content approaches
7.Knowledge of assessment practices (ACCESS, MODEL, WIDA Screener, etc.) and data analysis for English learner.
8.Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, and ESL lesson plan preparation
9.Experience with mentoring educators, preferred
Responsibilities:
1.Supervise the ESL Practicum Advisors' implementation of the ESL Practicum's policies and procedures
2.Match the ESL practicum participants with appropriate ESL Practicum Advisor
3.Meet with the ESL Practicum participants to review the expectations (Handbook, Assignments etc.) and clearly communicate assignment expectations and due dates to participants
4.Monitor the ESL practicum participants progress towards fulfilling the subject matter knowledge and skills of the ESL Practicum
5.Review the submissions of the ESL Practicum Advisors for practicum completion
6.Coordinate with Office of Human Resources to document and communicate to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
Compensation:
According to the Contract - compensated up to 45 hours and 45 PDPs
