CERTIFIED MEDICAL
INTERPRETER and play a vital role in bridging communication gaps between medical professionals and diverse patient populations. In this dynamic position, you will facilitate accurate, culturally competent interpretation across a variety of medical settings, ensuring clear understanding and compassionate care. Your expertise will support clinical teams in delivering high-quality services while maintaining strict adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards. This paid role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes through effective communication. Responsibilities Provide precise interpretation services in medical environments, including hospitals, clinics, and community health centers, utilizing multilingual skills and interpretation techniques such as over-the-phone and video remote interpretation. Translate medical terminology accurately, ensuring clarity for both healthcare providers and patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Uphold professional ethics by maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies. Assist with documentation review, medical records interpretation, and translating clinical notes to support healthcare providers' administrative needs. Demonstrate cross-cultural communication skills to navigate cultural differences effectively, fostering trust and understanding between patients and medical staff. Support social work teams by interpreting for child protective services or other social service agencies involved in patient care plans. Ensure compliance with clinical ethical guidelines and cultural competency standards during all interpretation activities. Requirements Certification as a Medical Interpreter from a recognized organization (e.g., CMI, NBCMI) or equivalent qualification demonstrating professional competence. Multilingual proficiency in English plus at least one additional language; fluency in American Sign Language is highly desirable. Proven experience in medical interpretation within hospital or clinical settings, with knowledge of medical terminology and translating complex medical concepts accurately. Familiarity with video remote interpretation (VRI) platforms, over-the-phone interpretation (OPI), and real-time translation tools. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical ethical guidelines, and cultural competency standards relevant to healthcare environments. Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and empathetically across diverse populations.
