Key Qualifications and Experience:

Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency in educational settings Experience working as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a school environment Knowledge of interpreter ethics and the ability to maintain confidentiality Strong interpersonal communication skills for collaborating with staff, students, and families Ability to adapt language and interpreting approaches to fit the needs of young learners

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide direct sign language interpretation for a 1st grade student during instructional and non-instructional activities throughout the school day Work closely with teachers to facilitate access to classroom discussions, lessons, and peer interactions Support the students understanding of classroom instructions, assignments, and routines Assist in creating an inclusive learning atmosphere by bridging communication between the student, peers, and staff Contribute insights to the students educational team regarding language access needs and strategies for effective communication Maintain professionalism and adhere to interpreting standards and ethical guidelines
