Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding educational environment where your expertise in American Sign Language makes a daily impact! A dedicated school near Southport, NC is looking for a passionate professional to support students as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time, contract role, starting as soon as possible through the end of the school year, offers a schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
Desired Qualifications:
Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) or actively pursuing certification Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), including both interpreting and expressive skills Prior experience facilitating communication for students in a school or educational setting preferred Capable of collaborating with teachers, staff, and families to foster an inclusive learning space Effective organizational and time-management abilities
Key Responsibilities:
Provide real-time ASL interpretation for students and staff in classrooms and during school activities Collaborate with general and special education teachers to ensure students are fully engaged in academic and community events Support students' understanding of course material, classroom discussions, and peer interactions through clear and accurate interpreting Adapt interpreting style to meet the varying needs of individual students Maintain confidentiality and comply with school policies regarding student privacy and professional ethics If you thrive in environments where communication access is paramount and enjoy being a vital bridge in students' academic journeys, this position is an excellent opportunity to make a difference.
