Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN) is a private non-profit organization that provides free advice and legal representation to low-income individuals. VLN's mission is to protect and promote the basic needs of people in poverty through the power of legal volunteers. VLN envisions a society where everyone has equal access to the legal services essential for stability and well-being.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Bilingual (English & Spanish) Intake Specialist is a full time (40 hours/week) position responsible for responding to requests for free legal services by members of the community. The position requires excellent time management skills, empathy, and attention to detail. This position is responsible for responding to client requests submitted electronically via the intake phone line, online applications, and e-transfers from other legal aid organizations, as well as in person at walk-in clinics. The Bilingual (English & Spanish) Intake Specialist is responsible for accurately screening potential clients to ensure they meet VLN's financial, geographic, and legal eligibility guidelines. This position can be remote, hybrid, or in-person at VLN's office in downtown Minneapolis. Applicants should live in Minnesota and be able to come to the Minneapolis office and/or make site visits to clinics as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
Answering telephone calls from potential clients Monday through Thursday from approximately 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This position will conduct intakes for multiple areas of the organization. Responding to requests submitted via other modes of intake, including online applications, e-transfers from other legal aid organizations, and in-person or virtual clinics. Providing quality experience for the caller (e.g., listens actively and empathetically, asks relevant questions, de-escalates tensions, provides appropriate referrals, clearly explains next steps, etc.) Using an online case management system to accurately track client details. Coordinating internal requests for interpretation and translation. Other duties and responsibilities as needed. Experience and Qualification Requirements Fluency in both written and spoken Spanish & English is required. Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income communities, immigrant communities, and communities of color. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365. Associate's degree or two years previous work experience required. Database and/or case management system experience preferred but not required. Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Prior work or volunteer experience related to VLN's mission or VLN's client communities is preferred. Work Environment This position can be remote, hybrid, or in-person at VLN's office in downtown Minneapolis. This position will require some in-person work in the Twin Cities metro area to staff in-person legal clinics. Compensation and Benefits VLN offers a competitive compensation package, including: Hourly compensation at the rate of $23.10 per hour (40 hours/week) Paid Time Off Retirement Plan with 3% employer contribution Healthcare (with option for employer paid premium) Dental (employer paid premium) FSA Life Insurance Short and Long-term disability insurance Please note, all plan benefits programs are governed by plan documents.
