Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mandarin/Cantonese Interpreter to facilitate clear and accurate communication across diverse settings Within the Early Intervention system of Illinois. This dynamic role involves translating spoken language and medical terminology between Mandarin or Cantonese and English, ensuring seamless cross-cultural interactions in healthcare, social services, and community programs. The interpreter will uphold the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural competency to support effective communication in sensitive environments. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by bridging language barriers and promoting equitable access to services. Duties Provide real-time interpretation for therapy sessions using both in-person and remote video platforms. Interpret medical terminology accurately during sessions, ensuring comprehension for both providers and patients while maintaining confidentiality policies. Assist with scheduling and cancelling sessions between family and providers. Facilitate over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) for urgent situations, ensuring swift and precise communication between clients and service providers. Adhere to professional ethics, HIPAA compliance, and clinical ethical guidelines while managing sensitive information related to patient health records and social work cases. Support cross-cultural communication by applying clinical cultural competency standards and ensuring understanding of cultural nuances during interactions. Experience Proven experience in interpretation with familiarity in medical terminology and translating complex medical concepts. Demonstrated ability to interpret fluently between Mandarin or Cantonese and English across various platforms including video remote interpretation (VRI) and over-the-phone interpretation (OPI). Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and documentation review procedures related to healthcare environments. Strong understanding of cross-cultural communication principles, cultural competency standards, and clinical cultural sensitivity. Multilingual capabilities including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) are a plus but not required; excellent communication skills are essential. Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure while managing multiple interpretation assignments with accuracy and confidentiality. the ability to attend a three days virtual training and pass an in-person verbal exam.
