Many survivors of domestic violence, immigrants, and refugees face language barriers that make it difficult to access resources, navigate legal systems, or communicate their needs effectively. The Interpreter will bridge this gap by providing accurate and compassionate language support during client intakes, case management sessions, counseling, court appointments, and community events. This role requires a multilingual professional capable of translating spoken and written communication between Swahili-speaking clients and English-speaking staff. The interpretation role goes beyond direct translation—it requires cultural awareness, confidentiality, and empathy. By supporting clear communication between staff, service providers, and clients, the interpreter will ensure survivors can make informed decisions about their safety, legal rights, and overall well-being. Responsibilities Provide interpretation between advocates and Swahili speaking clients. Translate documents including medical records, social service documents, and legal paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail. Assist in intake process, case management sessions, documentation review and more to ensure clarity and completeness of translated materials. Facilitate effective communication between clients and staff and support staff by interpreting during meetings, phone calls, and community outreach events. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations during all interpretation activities. Ensure cultural sensitivity in all interactions to promote trust and understanding among diverse populations. Requirements Multilingual proficiency with fluency in Swahili and English; bilingual skills are essential. Proven experience in interpretation within healthcare, hospital settings, or social services preferred. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret accurately in high-pressure situations. Experience working with social work professionals or in hospital environments is a plus.
