National Language Services (NLS) is expanding its interpreter network and is contracting professional Tigrinya interpreters for government, court, medical, educational and community assignments.

Work available:

Remote Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) and Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI) from anywhere in the United States. In-person assignments in the Sacramento region, the Bay Area and across California, usually within about 70 miles of an NLS hub city (Sacramento, Bay Area, Stockton, Modesto, Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Inland Empire, Orange County, San Diego).

Requirements:

Fluency in Tigrinya and English. Speakers from Eritrea and from Tigray are both welcome, and Amharic is a plus. At least 2 years of professional interpreting experience with a language service company or similar employer, verifiable. Reliable internet, a quiet workspace, and a computer or smartphone for remote work. Willingness to meet background screening, HIPAA and confidentiality requirements. Court, medical or other credentials are a plus and place you in a higher pay tier. Pay (independent contractor, set by NLS tier):

U.S. VRI

20 to 25 per hour Tier I, 25 to 30 Tier II, 30 to 35 Tier III, one hour minimum. U.S.

in-person:

24 to 28 per hour Tier I, 28 to 30 Tier II, 30 to 35 Tier III, two hour minimum.

U.S. OPI

0.32 to 0.72 per minute depending on tier, 15 minute minimum. Mileage beyond the first 50 round trip miles is paid at 0.50 per mile, plus parking and tolls with receipts. Rates increase with verified completed assignments and with credentials.

Hiring process:

Short interview, application, contract, orientation and platform activation. Orientation runs every two weeks. There is never a fee to apply. We are also contracting Dari, Hungarian, Amharic, Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters.

Pay:

$20.00 - $35.00 per hour
