PRIMARY PURPOSE
To provide comprehensive diagnostic services to support the individual needs of students with disabilities, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH), across 12 partner districts. The diagnostician will assess students referred to special education, participate in ARD processes, and collaborate with staff and families to develop appropriate educational programming.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree Educational Diagnostician Certification Valid Texas Teaching Certificate Teaching Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (preferred)
Bilingual Educational Diagnosticians:
Oral proficiency in Spanish (TOPT � Spanish) preferred
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Knowledge of special education law, policies, and diagnostic procedures Understanding of the unique needs of DHH students, including assessment of communication modality and language development Ability to assess students with multiple disabilities, including DeafBlind Familiarity with signed English systems and American Sign Language (ASL) Knowledge of 2nd language acquisition, cultural and linguistic considerations in testing Excellent verbal, written, public relations, and interpersonal communication skills Knowledge of MISD and RDSPD policies and procedures
Bilingual Educational Diagnosticians:
Knowledge of test instruments in languages other than English and ability to distinguish language difference vs. learning disability
EXPERIENCE
Experience selecting and administering appropriate evaluations for DHH students
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Travel between 12 partnering districts to conduct assessments and support ARD meetings Collaborate with campus referral chairs, special education teams, and administrators to ensure timely evaluations Conduct Full and Individual Evaluations (FIEs), including communication assessments for DHH students Serve as a team member in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings Assist in determining the primary language or mode of communication for DHH students Interpret evaluation results to parents and staff and support the development of IEPs Ensure evaluation tools are appropriately selected and administered based on students' communication needs Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations related to special education and DHH programming Facilitate communication and documentation exchange with outside agencies and medical professionals Maintain strict confidentiality with student and staff information Participate in professional development related to evaluation practices and DHH education Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education or designee
