Job Description

Make a meaningful impact in a student's educational journey while utilizing your sign language expertise in a supportive high school environment. This part-time contract opportunity is perfect for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter eager to facilitate communication and learning for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom. The role is structured as a job share with coverage needed every Friday, and occasional subbing to cover additional days if required. The student utilizes cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an assistive listening device, and will rely on your interpreting skills during instructional periods.
Key Qualifications:
Current certification and/or relevant licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience working within educational settings, particularly with high school students Sensitivity to the diverse needs of students with hearing differences Comfortable serving as a language facilitator and adapting to flexible communication requirements Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a shared role with another interpreter
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a 9th-grade student during classroom instruction Collaborate with educators and other interpreters to ensure consistent support throughout the week Adjust interpreting style to accommodate the student's unique communication devices and preferences Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions within the school setting Be available to substitute for the Monday-Thursday interpreter as needed This part-time opportunity offers consistent hours on Fridays only, allowing for a flexible schedule while providing vital language access to a deserving student.
