Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract role where your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter will directly support student learning and communication. This full-time opportunity offers 37.5 hours per week in a dynamic school setting near Norfolk, VA, providing consistent hours while empowering you to make a tangible difference. As a 1:1 interpreter, you'll be instrumental in fostering accessibility and inclusion, creating an environment where every student can thrive.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter Minimum EIPA score of 3.5 required Previous experience in educational settings is highly valued Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Ability to tailor interpreting style to individual student needs Excellent communication and organizational skills Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative mindset
Key Responsibilities:
Provide dedicated 1:1 interpreting services for a student during instructional hours and school activities Support full participation in classroom learning, extracurriculars, and social interactions Collaborate with educators, therapists, and support staff to ensure consistent communication access Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of practice Participate in IEP meetings, trainings, and team discussions as needed Help adapt materials and facilitate seamless integration into all aspects of school life
