Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract role for the 2026/2027 academic year, supporting students with communication needs as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter. Just a short drive from Tacoma, this opportunity is based in the vibrant Gig Harbor area, renowned for its friendly community and beautiful surroundings.
Key Qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive environment for students Strong communication and interpersonal skills Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or eligibility per state requirements Reliability and adaptability within a school environment
Your Responsibilities:
Collaborate with classroom teachers and educational staff to ensure accurate and effective communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classes, meetings, and school activities Support students' access to curriculum and participation in all aspects of school life Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards Provide feedback and insight to facilitate student progress and advocate for accessible educational opportunities
