Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact by supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in a full-time, contract role near Kent, WA. Use your expertise to bridge communication gaps and advocate for accessible education—while working alongside passionate educators and dedicated support staff. This position totals 37.5 hours per week, offering a steady and rewarding schedule throughout the academic term.
Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments Ability to interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities Familiarity with IEPs and collaborative planning with teachers and specialists Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the unique communication needs of students Relevant interpreter certification or credentials, as required Outstanding interpersonal skills, flexibility, and cultural sensitivity
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (and vice versa) for students, staff, and families in classroom and school settings Facilitate access to curriculum, activities, and school events for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students Collaborate closely with teachers, special educators, and school teams to best support student goals Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and advocacy in all interactions Adjust interpreting methods as needed for various age groups, learning environments, and situations Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to support student success This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in an inclusive educational community, helping students thrive in their learning environment.
