Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Bring your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and make a meaningful difference supporting students' access to education! A full-time, contract opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant school community near Renton, WA. This role offers a chance to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families to facilitate communication, foster inclusion, and promote student success.
What You'll Do:
Provide interpreting services between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, educators, and other school personnel Support instructional activities across classroom settings, ensuring accessible communication during lessons, meetings, and school events Collaborate with teachers and educational teams to tailor interpreting approaches that best support students' individual learning needs Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and documentation Assist in raising awareness of Deaf culture and ASL within the school setting Adapt to different learning environments and age groups as required by assignments
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in an educational setting, is preferred Knowledge of classroom and instructional support practices Ability to interpret fluently and accurately in both educational and social contexts Strong interpersonal and communication skills National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or EIPA score as required by state or district guidelines This position offers a stable, 37.5-hour work week during school hours, making it ideal for those seeking a predictable, full-time schedule in a dynamic and supportive atmosphere.
