Your expertise will facilitate clear, accurate, and culturally sensitive interpretation across a variety of settings, empowering clients to engage fully in educational, medical, legal, and community environments. Duties Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for diverse audiences in real-time, including educational sessions, medical appointments, legal proceedings, and community events. Conduct interpretation using various techniques such as simultaneous interpretation (interpreting in real-time) and consecutive interpretation (interpreting after the speaker pauses). Offer interpretation services over the phone or via video relay services (VRS), ensuring accessibility for remote or telephonic interactions. Demonstrate cultural competency by understanding and respecting the backgrounds and communication styles of clients from different linguistic and cultural communities. Translate written documents from English to foreign languages and vice versa, maintaining accuracy and context. Uphold professional ethics by maintaining confidentiality, impartiality, and neutrality during all interpretation activities. Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and address specific language needs or challenges. Experience Proven proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certification from a recognized interpreting organization preferred. Multilingual abilities are highly desirable, including fluency in additional languages beyond English and ASL. Demonstrated experience with interpretation techniques such as simultaneous and consecutive interpretation across various settings. Strong understanding of cultural nuances related to deaf communities and diverse linguistic backgrounds. Knowledge of linguistics principles related to language structure, translation accuracy, and effective communication strategies. Experience working with educational institutions, healthcare providers, legal entities, or community organizations is a plus.
