POSITION SUMMARY
Pinewood is seeking a part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) Technical Theater Assistant to join our Upper Campus (grades 7-12) for the 2026-27 school year starting August 10th, 2026. Working with our Technical Director, this individual plays an essential role in supporting Pinewood's performing arts program through the operation, maintenance, and management of technical theater systems and production spaces. Working closely with the Performing Arts Department, this position provides hands-on technical support for theatrical productions, concerts, assemblies, special events, and classroom activities while helping students develop technical theater skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Support Provide technical support for productions, concerts, assemblies, and special events throughout the school year. Design, set up, operate, and strike lighting, sound, projection, and set elements. Collaborate with faculty and support backstage operations to ensure successful performances. Attend technical/dress rehearsals and performances, concerts and other department events and operate and/or supervise student operation of sound, lighting, and related equipment. Scenic Design & Construction Design and plan scenic elements in collaboration with directors and faculty. Lead the construction, installation, and strike of theatrical scenery. Supervise students and maintain a safe, organized scene shop and workspace. Theater Operations & Equipment Management Maintain and troubleshoot theater equipment, including lighting, sound, projection, and related technologies. Manage technical theater inventory, storage areas, tools, and supplies. Coordinate equipment purchases, rentals, and theater preparation for productions and events. Student Leadership & Training Assist the instructor and students during the Technical Theater class. Train and supervise student technicians in the safe and effective use of theater equipment. Develop student leaders in lighting, sound, stage management, and crew operations. Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, responsibility, and safety among student crews.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks associated with set construction and installation. Ability to work in a workshop, theater, and backstage environment. Visual and auditory acuity to monitor student activities and ensure safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in technical theater, live event production, performing arts support, or related fields Knowledge of theatrical lighting, sound reinforcement, projection, stagecraft, and production operations Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment and solve problems efficiently Strong organizational and project management skills Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively Ability to supervise, mentor, and work effectively with students Strong communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to safety and attention to detail Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic school environment Passion for the performing arts and supporting student growth through creative experiences Be able to work evenings and occasional weekends during rehearsals, events and performances. Hours may vary depending on production schedules.
