Job Description

The Cubberley Community Center Theatre, part of the City of Palo Alto's Community Service Department, seeks two skilled and reliable Theatre Lighting Technicians to join our dedicated team. In this role, technicians will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of our theatrical lighting systems for a diverse schedule of events and facility rentals. This position is a key part of our operations, ensuring all productions and events run smoothly, safely, and successfully.
The successful candidate will have:
Proven experience as a theatrical lighting technician. Strong understanding of stage safety, electrical principles, and lighting control systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a positive, customer-service-oriented attitude. The ability to work independently, problem-solve under pressure, and exercise good judgment. A flexible and collaborative team player. Experience as an audio technician is not required, but is highly desirable. This is a Limited Hourly position, non-benefited, with a maximum of 416 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment. Flexible availability, including weekends and afternoons/evenings, is required. Operate, program, and maintain theatrical lighting equipment for performances, events, and rentals. Serve as the primary on-site technical liaison, providing expert support to facility users, performers, and stage crews. Supervise, train, and mentor volunteer and professional stagehands. Offer production and stage management guidance to clients with varying levels of experience. Ensure the safe use of all stage equipment and enforce facility safety protocols at all times. Assist with general facility support and equipment maintenance as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently and independently during live events.
