Job Description

Cubberley Community Center Theatre, part of the City of Palo Alto's Community Services Department, is seeking a motivated and adaptable Theatre Technician to join our team. This entry-level position is ideal for an individual eager to learn, grow, and advance their technical, customer service, and interpersonal skills, while supporting a busy performing arts venue.
The ideal candidate will have:
A foundational knowledge of production standards across a diverse range of performance types, including classical/popular music, dance, and theatre. Hands-on experience with sound recording, playback, and live reinforcement, as well as familiarity with large, permanent theatrical lighting systems and computerized light boards. The ability to adapt to the varying technical needs of our users is essential in venues host a wide variety of community and professional groups. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and a collaborative spirit. This is a Limited Hourly position, non-benefited, with a maximum of 416 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment. Flexible availability, including weekends and afternoons/evenings, is required.
Technical Operations & Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance, safety inspections, and troubleshooting of theatrical lighting, sound, and staging equipment.
Production & Stage Management:
Provide on-site production support and stage management expertise for facility users with varying levels of theatrical experience.
Team Collaboration:
Work effectively alongside both volunteer and professional stagehands to ensure seamless event execution.
Safety & Compliance:
Strictly enforce facility safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure environment for staff, performers, and patrons.
Customer Service & Communication:
Utilize strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service orientation to assist clients, resolve issues positively, and maintain a collaborative atmosphere.
