A Lighting Technician sets up, maintains, and dismantles light fixtures, lighting control devices, and the associated lighting electrical and rigging equipment used for photography, television, film, video, and live productions. May focus or operate light fixtures, attach color filters or other lighting accessories.
Hiring compensation range: $20.35/HR to $22.38/HR depending on qualifications.
Job Summary:
Provides audio-visual services to faculty, staff, students, and the community. Assists in performing technical and operational support activities for the Visual and Performing Arts department under the direct supervision of the Production Manager.
Job Duties:
Work includes, but is not limited to, audio/visual services, lighting, sound design, set construction, and other equipment needs for each production. Operates technical equipment as needed for productions and events. Includes working closely with Theatre Coordinator in planning meetings, load-in, set-up, technical rehearsals, performances, and strike. Regularly inspects equipment and performs maintenance tasks and repairs as needed. Maintains inventory for supplies and equipment. Maintains the organization, cleanliness and safety of all performing arts spaces and storage areas. Assists in the training and supervision of all event stage crew, faculty, staff and students. Fills in for on-call needs to cover programming, equipment failures and emergencies. Assists in the development and implementation of the budget and the tracking of expenditures. Compiles and produces monthly statistical usage reports and maintains files. Provides excellent customer service for internal and external stakeholders. Performs other similar and related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree and at least one year of prior-related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
This position supports the execution of productions, events, and facility operations, with a focus on equipment operation, maintenance, and technical assistance. Strong preference for candidates with the availability to work primarily afternoons, evenings and weekends. Flexibility in scheduling based on program needs is also preferred. Previous work experience in performing arts or related fields. Technical experience in lighting and/or sound. Experience using standard hand and power tools, hardware, ladders, and appropriate personal protective equipment. Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds, work on ladders, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with performing arts operations. Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a truck, van or similar vehicle for equipment transportation. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams). Familiarity with ConnecTeam or similar staffing software.
