Lighting and Sound Assistant Description:
The Lighting and Sound Assistant is responsible for assisting the Lighting and Sound Supervisor in the execution of all their duties and assigned tasks. The position's primary role will be to serve as the board operator for both Lights and Sound for Merrimack Repertory Theatre's (MRT) five-show season. All MRT employees are expected to embrace our mission statement and current strategic plan tenet of modeling Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at our core. MRT staff works in a manner consistent with these values by providing ongoing training, education, and action toward bing an anti-racist and equitable institution across all races, ethnicities, abilities, sexual and gender expressions. Duties and responsibilities
The Lighting and Sound Assistant:
Production:
Assist the Lighting and Sound Supervisor in all aspects of show preparation and load-in as assigned. Act as Master Electrician under the supervision of the Lighting and Sound Supervisor for a set number of shows in the season. Function as both Light and/or Sound Board Operator for the run of all five shows at Liberty Hall. Attend to duties as assigned by Designers and Lighting and Sound Supervisor. Be present at all technical rehearsals and technical rehearsal production meetings. Assist in delegation of tasks to an assigned crew of Over hire. Assist with the Middlesex Community College collaborative production. Other duties as assigned by Lighting and Sound Supervisor or Production Manager.
Management of Equipment and Spaces:
Assist with the upkeep of all MRT's inventory of sound and lighting equipment, as directed by supervisor, includinganizing the space, and replacement or disposal of items as needed. keep in working order MRT's hearing impaired assisted listening equipment, backstage monitors, and Clearmunication system, reporting to supervisor, Production Manager or Senior Staff representative whenplications arise. Assist with the maintenance of all MRT house, exterior and emergency lighting, reporting to supervisor, Production Manager or Senior Staff representative larger facility issues. Assist other production staff with general office lighting.
Community and Interdepartmental:
Commitment to fostering an anti-racist work culture and to anti-racist principals and learning. Commitment to the ideals of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Serve as needed and appropriate as a key holder/ staff representative for unexpected needs or emergencies. Provide assistance as needed to MRT staff or artists, vendors, emergency services, or MRT patrons. unusual events, or uncooperative individuals to House Manager, Production Manager or Senior Staff representative. Provide support to Education, Special Events, Company Management and any other departments' projects as needed. Maintain and help to enforce MRT best practices regarding safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.
Qualifications:
Basicpetence with theatrical lighting and sound equipment and procedures equivalent to that earned in a four-year undergraduate program. Ability to read and interpret blues or Vectorworks documents. Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, Vectorworks, Lightwright and QLab. Proficient use in Virtual Sound Console, especially Yamaha QL5. Knowledge of ETC EOS software (basic). Excellent written and oralmunication skills and the ability for creative problem solving. Current driver's license. Working conditions This position requires regular nights and weekends. Physical requirements Ability to lift 50 lbs. Stand for 2 hours. Work at heights of 50 ft. Working in spaces under 5' in height. Operate various powered and non-powered tools.
