Prototype Lighting Technician Prefix Corporation - 2.6 Rochester Hills, MI Job Details 1 day ago Qualifications Fabrication Mechanical assembly Workflow management (operations management method) 5 years Mid-level Improving operational efficiency High school diploma or GED Policy & process development Fiberglass Prototype creation Milling machines Manual machining Sanding Plastics Prototypes Full Job Description Job Summary The Special Projects Technician for the Lighting Department fabricates and assembles a variety of prototype properties designed and/or built at Prefix Corporation. Duties and Responsibilities Provide input into the development and revision of departmental procedures Complete accurate and detailed sanding of stereo and other types of substrates Make molds utilizing a variety of industry standard molding techniques, such as silicone encapsulation, fiberglass construction, and multi-piece molds Make parts using different methods, such as vacuum casting and fiberglass lay-ups Weigh, measure and mix various ingredients such as plastic compounds according to formula Monitor mixing to ensure thorough and proper blending Transfer material to mold, container or storage tank Perform detailed assembly work Perform finishing work to include sanding and polishing of intricate parts and assemblies Polish lenses such as cast urethane and/or polycarbon. Fabricate parts using fabricating machines, such as drill press, lathe, mill and power hand tools Design and construct templates and fixtures Provide input on improving operational efficiencies Provide inter-departmental support as directed Education / Experience / Skills Background in model making and/or prototype builds with a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience. Strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to coordinate workflow to meet or exceed predetermined timelines and quality levels. High School or GED equivalent required. A certificate from an accredited technical or industrial trades school is preferred. Incumbent must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade such tools as required to complete the tasks assigned. Must be familiar with fine-line prototyping and SLA. Needs to be a self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time and allocating resources.
