Lighting Services EngineerLocation:
Tuscaloosa, AL (Hybrid) Role OverviewWe are seeking a Lighting Services Engineer to design, implement, and maintain lighting systems for diverse applications, including commercial, residential, outdoor, and industrial facilities. This role involves collaborating with clients, architects, and project teams to create effective and energy-efficient lighting solutions. The position is a 3-year contract with a hybrid work schedule, requiring four days on-site or in the field and one day remote. Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with clients and architects to understand project requirements and design lighting systems that meet aesthetic, functional, and energy-efficiency goals.
Perform lighting calculations and simulations to determine appropriate fixtures, luminance levels, and layouts.
Focus on energy-efficient lighting design, incorporating LED technology and other sustainable practices.
Create detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, and specifications for contractors and installers.
Select lighting fixtures, controls, and accessories based on project requirements and budget.
Ensure lighting designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including energy and safety guidelines.
Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, troubleshoot issues, and gather data for projects.
Manage lighting projects from concept to completion, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders.
Perform quality control inspections and oversee the commissioning process to ensure systems function as designed.
Maintain accurate project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and as-built records.
Required QualificationsA Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is required. Other engineering degrees may be considered, but a Bachelor's in Engineering is mandatory.
In-depth knowledge of lighting principles, photometry, and the use of lighting fixtures, controls, and technologies.
Familiarity with lighting codes and standards such as ASHRAE and IESNA.Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
Preferred QualificationsPower Delivery experience, such as an internship or co-op.
Experience with lighting design software, such as AutoCAD or Revit.
Lighting Certification (LC) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Experience with smart lighting controls and building automation systems.
