The 13th Manor is a seated live horror show combining live actors, storytelling, lighting, sound, fog, movement, and practical special effects. The Show Technician operates the experience from behind the scenes and plays a critical role in making sure every performance runs safely, consistently, and on cue. This position will operate multiple approximately 20 to 25-minute shows throughout each scheduled performance day, often with short reset periods between performances. Responsibilities Operate the technical elements of The 13th Manor during every assigned performance. Execute lighting, audio, fog, scare, movement, air, vibration, and other special-effect cues at the correct moments. Closely follow the show's established cue sequence, script, and timing. Monitor actors, guests, and the performance area throughout each show. Coordinate with actors and other team members before, during, and between performances. Confirm that the show is ready and safe before admitting each new audience. Reset effects, equipment, props, and show systems between performances as required. Perform pre-show checks to confirm that technical systems are functioning properly. Identify and respond to technical problems during performances. Make quick decisions when a cue, effect, actor, or piece of equipment does not operate as expected. Stop, pause, or modify the show when necessary for guest, performer, or equipment safety. Communicate technical problems or maintenance needs to management. Help troubleshoot minor equipment and show-control issues when appropriate. Follow all established safety procedures, emergency procedures, and show protocols. Protect and properly care for show equipment, electronics, effects, controls, and other technical systems. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe technical and backstage area. What We're Looking For Extremely reliable and able to arrive on time for every committed performance day. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow an established sequence of cues accurately. Comfortable operating computers, control systems, buttons, switches, audio equipment, lighting controls, or similar technology. Able to remain focused while performing repetitive show operations throughout the night. Comfortable making quick decisions when something unexpected happens. Able to communicate clearly with actors, management, and other technical staff. Comfortable working independently for portions of the performance. Able to stay calm when equipment malfunctions or a performance does not go according to plan. Capable of learning the complete show sequence rather than relying solely on written instructions during every performance. Able to maintain consistent timing across multiple back-to-back performances. Previous experience with theater technology, haunted attractions, show control, lighting, sound, live events, AV equipment, or special effects is preferred but not required. Training on the specific systems used in The 13th Manor will be provided. Working Environment This position works primarily behind the scenes but is still located within an active haunted attraction and theatrical environment.

Technicians should be comfortable:

Working in dark or extremely low-light environments. Working around loud music, sound effects, screams, and sudden noises. Working around theatrical fog, flashing and strobing lights, compressed-air effects, vibration, moving effects, and other special effects. Remaining in a relatively small technical or backstage area for extended periods. Working through multiple 20 to 25-minute performances with relatively short reset periods between shows. Standing, sitting, bending, crouching, and moving around technical and backstage areas as needed. Working in an environment where effects may activate suddenly and repeatedly throughout the night. Reasonable accommodations may be available depending on the requirements of the position. Show Safety and Responsibility The Show Technician is one of the primary people responsible for monitoring the performance while it is in progress. The technician must remain attentive throughout the entire show and be prepared to respond if a guest, actor, effect, or piece of equipment creates a potential safety issue. This position requires good judgment. Technical operators must understand that executing a show cue is never more important than guest, performer, or employee safety. Technicians will receive training regarding normal show operation, emergency procedures, effect shutdowns, and other required safety protocols. Schedule and Compensation This is a temporary performance engagement and is not a traditional full-time or part-time position. Show Technicians are paid a predetermined rate for each scheduled performance day. Performance days may include pre-show equipment checks, system startup, rehearsals, multiple back-to-back performances, resets between shows, troubleshooting, and end-of-night shutdown procedures. Technicians must be available for all dates they commit to and are expected to remain available for the entire scheduled call time on those dates.
