Exempt The Youth Sports and Recreation Director position with the City of Shelley is a full-time, year-round position. The applicant shall oversee all aspects of the programs including registration, scheduling, hiring, training, and supervising referee staff, communication with coaches and parents, equipment purchases, budget planning, etc. In addition, this position provides office support for the office staff as needed, under the direction of the City Clerk and oversees the Mayor's Youth Council and the Tree City USA committee.Supervision Received:
This position works under the supervision of the City Clerk, Mayor and City Council.Supervision Exercised:
Supervision over all seasonal referees is required.Essential Functions:
- Interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the work of regular and temporary seasonal employees and volunteers.
- Determining and organizing sports schedules and programs.
- Investigates and evaluates public complaints and criticism and takes action as required.
- Plan, organize, manage, direct and evaluate appropriate sports and recreation programs and operations.
- Coordinate sports programs to satisfy the desires of varied age groups.
- Exercise sound judgement and generate workable solutions in problem situations.
- Analyze and appropriately solve problems and resolve conflicts.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Monitor financial performance of recreation programs.
- Pursue grants, track grant expenditures, and submit grant reports as needed for areas of direct responsibility.
- Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
- Build collaborative partnerships with schools, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers.
