Job Description Insight Magazine is a student-run feature magazine, where pieces are written by students for students at the University of Nevada, Reno to be informative, conversational, and relatable. We aspire to be honest and thought-provoking by publishing textual and visual work. Those who contribute to the magazine have a rare opportunity to share their thoughts via physical print to the student body and across the Northern Nevada community. Our team explores the craft journalism through writing, photography, graphic design, public relations, and more. Insight allows students to become familiar with the world of publication through the process of creating a magazine and providing them with real work experience that will propel them in their respective fields. The Photographer's main responsibility is taking and editing photographs for Insight's print magazine and website. Photos must be optimized for both web and printing. The Photo Editor will directly work with the Executive Editor, Art Director, and other Photo Editor to ensure all photos meet Insight's aesthetic standards. This position requires a strict adherence to deadlines set by the Executive Editor and Art Director. All staff members are expected to attend weekly team meetings to discuss updates, announcements, etc. to uphold solid and effective communication amongst the Insight Magazine team. Insight Magazine cannot provide equipment, so a personal camera is highly recommended. This job application asks that 5 work samples (photos and cutlines) be combined into one document and submitted. Responsibilities Create photographic content for Insight's print magazine and website Edit photos in collaboration with the other Photo Editor and Art Director Adhere to strict deadlines Attend weekly staff meetings Distribute Insight Magazines Required Qualifications Understanding of Google Drive Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom Creativity towards photos and magazine layouts Organized, communicative, and collaborative Ability to work nights and weekends Commitment to the ethical and moral leadership development of students Strong time-management skills Schedule 5-10 hours per week Compensation Student Employee Level 1 $12.00/hourly Exempt No Full-Time Equivalent 0.0% Required Attachment(s) Please note, once you submit your application the only attachment/s viewable to you will be the attachment/s to the resume/CV section of the application.
