In this role, you will bring artistic visions to life by designing, fabricating, offering custom framing solutions for a diverse range of artworks, photographs, and decorative pieces. Your expertise will ensure each project is executed with precision, craftsmanship, and an eye for aesthetic excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with clients, artists, and curators to enhance visual presentations through expertly crafted framing and mounting techniques. The Custom Picture Framer position at FastFrame Dallas is a part-time, on-site role located in the Dallas Metroplex. Full-time may also be considered. Responsibilities This role involves consulting with customers to understand their framing needs, recommending design options, and guiding them through choices of mats, frames, and glazing. The Custom Picture Framer will measure, cut, and assemble frames and mats, prepare artwork for mounting, and ensure each finished piece meets quality and safety standards. Daily responsibilities also include maintaining a clean and organized workshop, handling basic tool and equipment care, and supporting front-of-house activities such as answering questions, design consulting, and processing orders. The role requires a strong focus on customer satisfaction, attention to detail, and a commitment to handcrafted quality. Qualifications Solid conservation framing skills, including custom frame assembly and mat cutting, with experience as a framer or in related roles. Hands-on woodworking abilities, including safe use of cutting tools and basic shop equipment, with an eye for precision and detail. Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, active listening, and a friendly, professional demeanor in a retail environment. Knowledge of picture frame materials and techniques, including mounting, preservation, and proper handling of artwork and photos. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry framed pieces, and work safely with tools and materials. Must be able to lift and safely handle heavy items including but not limited to large sheets of glass and large finished framed works. Basic math and measurement skills, with reliability in following specifications and meeting deadlines. Must have basic computer skills to work with store POS system and Mat Cutting CMC software. High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in custom framing, art handling, or visual arts is beneficial. Willingness to learn, follow established processes, and collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality results. Canvas Stretching and knowledge in Conservation Framing techniques is a plus. Professional Custom Framer experience is not a requirement, but is preferred. The candidate should, however, have some related experience in some sort of handmade craftsmanship.
