PRODUCER / SHOOTER / WRITER BEHIND-THE-SCENES DOCUMENTARY
Burbank, California Full-Time, Salaried Staff Position
Start Date:
January 11, 2027 Atlantic America LLC is seeking an experienced Producer / Shooter / Writer to create a one-hour behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling the making of Atlantic America's television and film productions. This person will work independently of our core camera crews while traveling with the production teams on all shoots throughout the United States. While the primary crews concentrate on the productions themselves, this filmmaker will capture the complete story of what happens behind the scenes. The documentary will follow the people, travel, preparation, technology, logistics, creative decisions, challenges, unexpected moments, remote locations, and day-to-day realities involved in bringing Atlantic America's productions to the screen.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently produce and shoot the behind-the-scenes documentary. Travel with Atlantic America production teams on location. Capture observational footage, interviews, crew activity, travel, preparation, and production challenges. Identify characters, storylines, and unexpected moments as they develop. Conduct interviews with production personnel and other participants. Follow stories across multiple shoots and locations. Develop the narrative structure of the one-hour documentary. Write interview questions, treatments, scripts, narration, and other editorial material. Work with post-production to shape the completed film. Operate independently without interfering with principal photography.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have professional experience in documentary, factual, unscripted, natural history, or behind-the-scenes production and demonstrate: Documentary producing experience Professional field camera experience Strong writing and story-producing ability Long-form storytelling experience Strong interviewing skills Excellent observational instincts Ability to independently identify and follow developing stories Strong understanding of visual storytelling, coverage, and continuity Ability to work independently in unpredictable production environments The ideal candidate is a filmmaker who can produce, shoot, interview, and write, and who understands how to turn the process of making a production into a compelling story of its own.
FIELD PRODUCTION
This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States, including extended assignments and occasional same-day or short-notice departures. Our productions frequently operate in remote wilderness and rugged outdoor environments. Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including hiking rugged terrain, working at high elevations, working long and irregular production days, operating in changing weather conditions, camping overnight when required, and carrying and operating professional camera equipment.
EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time, salaried, non-union staff position, not a freelance or contract assignment. The position is based from Atlantic America's Burbank, California production office and requires extensive travel with our production teams.
COMPENSATION
Annual Gross Salary Range:
$71,000 to $95,000 Final compensation will reflect experience, qualifications, production credits, camera skills, writing ability, and demonstrated long-form documentary storytelling experience.
