Job Description
Short-Term Manuscript Organization Assistant I am seeking a patient, organized, computer-savvy person to help organize a completed nonfiction book manuscript. The book is already written, but its chapters and supporting material are currently spread across several Microsoft Word documents and printed pages. I need someone who can sit with me, organize the computer files and printed sections, and help create one dependable master manuscript. This is primarily an organization and computer project—not a ghostwriting or rewriting position. I will make all decisions about the book's ideas, content, and final placement. Responsibilities Locate and organize Microsoft Word files Help identify different versions and duplicate material Sort printed sections into chapters and labeled binders Consolidate approved material into one master Word document Create clear headings and an easy-to-use Navigation Pane Preserve all original documents and maintain backups Keep the main manuscript separate from research, worksheets, and future-project material Qualifications Strong Microsoft Word and Windows file-management skills Excellent organizational ability and attention to detail Patient, dependable, and comfortable working collaboratively Able to explain computer tasks clearly and without unnecessary technical language Publishing, administrative, or manuscript experience is helpful but not required Familiarity with psychology or counseling is welcome but not required The project will begin with one paid, two-hour session at my home in Milford, New Hampshire. If we work well together, I expect to schedule two additional two-hour sessions, for a maximum of approximately six hours. Pay is $40-$50 per hour, depending on experience. Because this work involves an unpublished copyrighted manuscript, the selected person will be required to sign a confidentiality and work-product agreement before reviewing the material. For the right person, this project may lead to additional paid organizational or project-support work. Please apply with a brief description of your Microsoft Word and file-organization experience, your availability, and why this type of project interests you.
