Part-Time Sports Reporter Gold Mountain California News Media Gold Mountain California News Media is looking for a motivated Part-Time Sports Reporter to cover high school sports throughout Placer and Sacramento counties. This position will primarily cover schools in Auburn, Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Loomis, Folsom and surrounding communities for our award-winning local newspapers, websites and social media platforms. Responsibilities Cover varsity high school sporting events, with an emphasis on Friday night football, basketball, baseball, softball and championship events. Write timely game stories, feature stories and athlete profiles. Photograph sporting events for print and digital publication. Interview coaches, athletes and community members. Develop relationships with athletic directors, coaches and school officials. Generate story ideas that go beyond game coverage, including human interest features, team previews and season recaps. Post breaking sports updates and photos for digital and social media. Meet print and digital deadlines while maintaining accuracy and fairness. Qualifications Strong writing, interviewing and storytelling skills. Photography experience is preferred. Knowledge of high school athletics and sports rules. Ability to work evenings and weekends, particularly during sports seasons. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout our coverage area. Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Experience with AP Style is preferred. Previous newspaper, digital media or journalism experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
