The Enterprise of Brockton/enterprisenews.com, part of the
USA TODAY
NETWORK, is seeking a dynamic food and culture writer to create compelling stories and videos about the restaurant, dining, art and influencer scene in the Brockton area. A majority-minority city of about 100,000 located half-way between Boston and Providence, Brockton is known for its vibrant African-American, Cape Verdean, and Haitian communities, contributing to its rich culinary and cultural landscape. Brockton boasts restaurants that are destinations for foodies and a cutting-edge hip-hop scene. We need a passionate storyteller with the ability to capture the diverse culture of the city, spot what's buzzworthy and serve it up to our readers, from quick-turn food trending articles to chef and restaurant or influencer profiles.

Metrics and audience research will help guide decisions about how to cover topics and issues as you engage with readers on a variety of platforms to drive audience and subscriber growth. And the beat will evolve as you share best practices with network colleagues around the country.

This reporter is also expected to have the range to handle breaking news, as well as general assignment reporting. Our newsroom is virtual, but our journalism is local - this role requires actively reporting from your community.
Responsibilities:
Be passionate about news, developing a beat and becoming a local authority on food and culture Capitalize on live, breaking and trending moments by creating quick-turn-around content Use sites such as Google Trends to mine story ideas Produce content in alternative forms such as video Be flexible to assist in coverage of breaking news and other events.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or master's in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience3 or more years of professional journalism experience or significant internship experienceHigh-level writing, communication and time management skillsDemonstrated ability to work well on deadlineFacility with AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance your journalismAbility to produce content that is clean, accurate and publication readyUnderstanding of reporting ethics and sourcingThis role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law
