Maine Trust for Local News is seeking a Maine Politics Reporter to join our team and support our mission of strengthening communities through trusted local journalism. Reports and writes accurate, compelling stories across formats, including breaking news, enterprise, features, analysis, profiles, briefs and digital content. Covers politics, government, elections, and public policy, with a focus on how decisions by elected officials and public institutions affect readers and communities. Develops original story ideas, enterprise reporting, and investigative opportunities that advance the newsroom's coverage and serve readers. Builds and maintains a strong network of reliable sources, including elected officials, government leaders, political organizations, advocates, experts, and community members. Conducts thorough research, interviews, records reviews, and fact-checking to produce fair, accurate, and well-sourced reporting. Monitors local, state, and relevant federal political developments and identifies their significance to readers. Manages multiple assignments effectively, prioritizes competing demands, and consistently meets deadlines.Qualifications :
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, political science, or a related field, or equivalent, professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience reporting on politics, government, elections, public policy, or other civic affairs at a reputable news organization.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for field reporting and community coverage.
