EDITOR / COMMUNITYJOURNALIST
Cameron Newspapers is looking for an energetic, community-minded Editor to join our team in Cameron, Missouri. If you love telling stories, meeting people and being involved in the community, this could be the opportunity for you. The Editor will lead the news coverage for the Cameron Citizen-Observer and help produce content for our digital platforms, including MyCameronNews.com and social media .What You'll Do:
Report and write local news, feature stories, and community-interest stories Cover city council, school board, government, community events and other local meetings Conduct interviews and develop relationships with community members and local leaders Take photographs and gather information for stories Edit and proofread copy Layout newspaper; InDesign & Photoshop experience needed Help plan weekly newspaper content Contribute to our website and social media platforms Help identify the stories that matter to the people in our community Work with the publisher and staff to produce a quality weekly newspaperWhat We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who is: A strong writer and communicator Curious and willing to ask questions Organized and able to meet deadlines Comfortable talking with people and developing sources Able to work independently and take initiative Interested in local government, schools, sports and community news Comfortable with social media and digital content Newspaper or journalism experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person. A journalism, communications or related degree is helpful but not required. This is a hands-on position for someone who wants to become an important part of the community and have a direct impact on local journalism.What We Offer:
